Rio Ferdinand has insisted that the Manchester United squad will be desperate for Ruben Amorim to start work and help them after a poor start to the season.

Erik ten Hag was sacked last week after leading United to their worst-ever start to a Premier League season. While the Dutchman paid the price for the bad form, there is little denying that the players also have a part to blame.

Amorim was named as the successor for United last Friday and he will start work officially on Monday, November 11. "These players have not performed for a long period of time, there might have been the odd performance here or there, but consistency delivers trophies over a sustained period of time.

None of them can sit there and say that they have done that. "Bruno [Fernandes] is the only one close but all the others will be sitting there going: 'Please, bring some performances out of myself, help me to become the player everyone thinks I can be, because right now I am not delivering,' that is how the players will be thinking if they are honest.
