Former Manchester United starlet Angel Gomes could be set for a sensational return to Old Trafford under Ruben Amorim. The 24-year-old was released by the Premier League giants four years ago and moved to Lille.
However, he's now being linked with a move back to Manchester after a successful loan spell at Boavista and a strong season back in France.
Numerous reports claim new United boss Amorim is keen on bringing Gomes back to the club. And the England U21 star - whose contract at Lille expires at the end of this season - is not expected to command a large transfer fee. 'The Special One' didn't rate Gomes highly enough to give him an extended run in his team, and the playmaker eventually departed for free in 2020. "He didn't think I had played up to standard [in a reserves match] to warrant a place in the first-team squad, and he just really let me know," said Gomes. "At the time, I was thinking, 'Why has he done that in front of everyone?
Could he not have pulled me to the side?' "A few of the players came up to me and said, 'He just wants a reaction from you, don't let it faze you', but in that moment I didn't want to hear anything.
