Stargazers could catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights this weekend, according to the Met Office. The aurora borealis, as it is also known, may illuminate night skies across the UK on Saturday evening into Sunday morning.
The Met Office predicts that the lights could be as “strong” as those which were spotted last week in the Shetlands and in central and Eastern parts of England.
It said that displays were “likely” in Scotland, Northern Ireland, and “perhaps extending” to include parts of northern England and Wales in its aurora forecast.
Greater Manchester is expected to have a relatively clear night according to forecasters, which increases the chances of spotting the Northern Lights.
