The Weeknd Cancels Rose Bowl Concert, Delays Album Release Due To L.A. Wildfires

The Weeknd on Monday said he was canceling his planned January 25 concert at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena “out of respect and concern for the people of Los Angeles County” as deadly wildfires continue to wreak havoc in the region.

The concert was to serve as part of the launch of The Weeknd’s new album Hurry Up Tomorrow, which was due to be released January 24.

It will now hit shelves on January 31, the four-time Grammy winner announced today. No new date for the concert was announced, with ticket holders being told to check with Ticketmaster or other outlets for refunds. “This city has always been a profound source of inspiration for me, and my thoughts are with everyone impacted at this time,” the singer, real name Abel Tesfaye, wrote on social media.

He added, “My focus remains on supporting the recovery of these communities and aiding its incredible people as it rebuilds.” The Rose Bowl is currently being used as a staging area for the City of Pasadena fire and police departments and other regional agencies for emergency response efforts to the Eaton Fire, which broke out Tuesday in nearby Altadena.
