Cynthia Onyedinmanasu Chinasaokwu Erivo (born 8 January 1987) is an English actress, singer, and songwriter.
She is known for her performance as Celie in the Broadway revival of The Color Purple, for which she won the 2016 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical, the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actress in a Musical, the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album, and the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Musical Performance in a Daytime Program, the latter two she shared with the rest of the cast.
Erivo ventured into films in 2018, with roles in the heist film Widows and the thriller Bad Times at the El Royale. In 2019, she portrayed abolitionist Harriet Tubman in the biopic Harriet, for which she earned nominations for an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, and a Screen Actors Guild Award.
Tom Parker was remembered in The Grammys In Memoriam segment. The Wanted singer tragically passed away at the age of 33 after a battle with a brain tumour, and he was one of the stars remembered in a segment during the annual music awards ceremony in Las Vegas tonight.
Many stars were honoured in the tributes tonight, including Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, who passed away recently, as well as musical legend Stephen Sondheim, who died in November 2021.
Tom was shown on screen during the segment, where Ben Platt, Cynthia Erivo, Leslie Odom Jr and Rachel Zegler sang a medley of Sondheim songs as they paid tribute to the stars that had been lost this year.
His wife Kelsey confirmed the tragic news of Tom's passing earlier this week. She wrote on Instagram : "It is with the heaviest of hearts that we confirm Tom passed away peacefully earlier today with all of his family by his side.
