Under previous guidance, any hospitality business in Tier 2 was only allowed to sell alcohol to customers if they also ordered a main meal - and that rule even applied to theatres and music venues.However the Government has now U-turned on that decision, announcing that alcohol can in fact be purchased at ticketed events.That means that fans will be able to get an alcoholic drink at music venues, theatres, sports grounds and cinemas.According to the guidance, the alcohol must be 'ordered by, and served to, a customer who has a ticket for an exhibition of a film, a performance or an event of training or competition at the venue, to consume in the area where the audience is seated to watch.
