Taymouth Castle’s development into a luxury guest community has set off squabbles, accusations and tribalism with the ripple effects going way beyond Loch Tay.The major development of land around the grand castle at the Kenmore end of Loch Tay has set those who welcomed the revival of the abandoned stately home against those who were wary of powerful investors.On July 27, 300 members of the public packed Aberfeldy Town Hall to ask politicians Pete Wishart MP and John Swinney MSP to get them answers about Discovery Land Company (DLC), the US developers behind extraordinary levels of activity at the sleepy village where Queen Victoria and Prince Albert once spent a holiday.Last week DLC responded to the questions put to it through these politicians, vowing there would be “no gated community” at the castle.The company has also confirmed its intention to re-open local facilities like the shop and keep access to the beach.Protect Loch Tay (PLT) group, started just over 10 weeks ago, could claim to be David to DLC’s Goliath image.The private page on Facebook has over 3000 members, more than 1500 people “waiting to join” and its anti-overdevelopment of the local area petition now has over 143,000 signatories.But not everyone in the area automatically shares the same viewpoint and recently PLT has had keyboard duels with Save Kenmore, another ‘concerned people on the ground with queries’ social media tribe.Rob Jamieson, admin of Protect Loch Tay recently wrote of infighting undermining the group’s solidarity.“Sadly, those of us running the group have been personally accused of a number of things including being ‘anti-American’, ‘fascists’, ‘xenophobic Nationalists’, ‘outsiders’ and told to go back where we come from, [and that
