Jazz Tangcay Artisans Editor Coralie’s Fargeat’s “The Substance,” “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” and “The Deliverance” led the 12th annual Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild Award nominations.

The body horror of Fargeat’s “The Substance” resonated with the make-up and hair stylist guild with three nominations. Special effects artist Pierre Olivier Persin explained that Fargeat wanted to use practical effects, instead of digital CGI, where possible.

70-80% of what was seen in the film was practical, including the MonstroElisaSue creation which features at the end. “Gladiator 2” and “Deadpool and Wolverine” each landed two nominations a piece.

Other films that scored include “Shirley,” “Bob Marley: One Love” and “The Last Showgirl.” Missing from the nominations were nods for “Maria,” “Nosferatu” and “Dune: Part II.” In the television category, “Dancing With the Stars” landed five nominations across the hair and make-up categories.
