The Snowman creator Raymond Briggs dies at the age of 88

Beloved author and illustrator Raymond Briggs has tragically passed away at the age of 88. His family announced his passing on Tuesday Morning (August 9) in a statement through his publisher Penguin Random House.

He was most known for the creation of The Snowman which sold more than 5.5 million copies around the world as well as the much-loved children's books Father Christman, Fungus The Bogeyman and When The Wind Blows.

It has become a Christmas tradition for the animated version of The Snowman to air every year ever since its first broadcast on Channel 4 in 1982.

Speaking about his death, Briggs' family said: "We know that Raymond’s books were loved by and touched millions of people around the world, who will be sad to hear this news.
