The Pill could soon be available at pharmacies without prescription for the first time ever as two major brands embark on a change in the way they are given out.

Women currently have to get a prescription from a doctor or qualified nurse to get their hands on their oral contraceptive. But the proposals will see them available without a prescription and given out over the counter.

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency has launched two separate three-week consultations - one for each pharmaceutical company - Maxwellia which pill is marketed as Lovima and HRA Pharma for its Hana brand.
