Bold colour combinations are all the rage right now, but tricky to pull off. This elegant house is a lesson in how to get it right Fiona Armstrong’s house in north London features colour and pattern combinations that, on paper, make for dizzying reading.

The family room on the lower-ground floor is a case in point: there is a wing chair upholstered in an acid-yellow large-scale geometric print; the floral rug is a riot of oranges, pinks and greens; and the sofa is upholstered in a difficult-to- describe blue-green – Armstrong’s interior designer, Jo Berryman, hazards ‘spirulina’.
