The Mountain Goats’ John Darnielle has been announced as a judge for this year’s National Book Awards, working in the Literature in Translation category.
He also shared a new cassette, Songs for Pierre Chuvin. Darnielle posted a cryptic message to Instagram with instructions to text “Cassette” to 31996 for updates on the 10-track tape’s release.
In addition to his work with the Mountain Goats, Darnielle is an accomplished novelist. He’s released two novels: 2014’s Wolf in White Van, which was nominated for the National Book Award for Fiction, and 2017’s Universal Harvester.
He also wrote the 33 1/3 book on Black Sabbath’s Master of Reality, which was written in the form of a novella. He’s currently still scheduled to tour the U.S.
