You join me on the day Manchester was ranked one of the most beautiful city names in the UK. That’s right, linguists working for Premier Inn (bear with me) looked at the theory of ‘sound symbolism’ and named Glasgow as the most beautiful, followed by Liverpool, Belfast and Manchester.
I suppose it depends a little bit on how you pronounce it - ‘Man-ches-tuh’ like me, or ‘Man-ches-toh’ like the Gallaghers. Either way, we’re on to a winner apparently.
On to the news. In today’s newsletter we’ll be looking at a disturbing rise in the number of child sexual abuse referrals in Oldham.
