A milkshake combining strawberries, Nutella spread, Oreos, marshmallows and white chocolate shavings might sound extravagant, perhaps even a little indulgent, but at a dessert parlour in Rochdale, literally anything goes.

Nestled between a shop selling blinds and an African food store, the cheekily named Whipped, is raising the bar for late night treats in the town.

Opened earlier this year by married couple Miriam Iqbal and Adeem Akram, it’s a completely new challenge for the pair, who, after identifying a gap in the market, knew they had to take the plunge. “Before we got together we thought let's do a business of some sort and we felt like Rochdale was missing a dessert shop, especially one where everything is made in-house,” says Miriam. The menu, which also includes pots of soft serve ice cream and customisable milkshakes has been carefully curated, with a focus on high-quality ingredients. “So the waffle batter is obviously top secret, but like the brownies and cheesecake, everything is made by us, using only the best quality ingredients,” adds Miriam. “We don’t compromise on anything and while the menu isn’t massive we want it to be the best it can be. “Manchester is a little over-saturated with dessert shops, whereas in Rochdale you only have a few independent spots, so we decided on waffle balls to differentiate ourselves.
