More than 100 vintage motorcycles gathered in Blairgowrie recently before enjoying a run through some of east Perthshire’s beautiful countryside in what was the largest Vintage Motor Cycle Club (VMCC) event in Scotland since 2008.Enthusiasts from all over the country donned their leathers for the ‘Wee Run Frae the Doc’s Auld Hoose’, organised by Alistair and Paula Huddleston for the last four years and increasingly one of the most popular events in the vintage motorcycle calendar. Many of the once familiar manufacturers’ names from the past were represented, including BSA, Scott, Velocette, Norton, Triumph, Vincent and Indian as well as some modern classics. This year, the run was especially poignant as it was held in commemoration of Alistair’s father, Dr Iain Huddleston, who passed away late last year.Iain, known fondly as ‘the Doc’, lived and worked in Blairgowrie for more than 30 years and was a regular at many vintage motorcycle events, having ridden vintage bikes for seven decades. He started out with a 1927 Royal Enfield V-twin, which was bought new by Alistair’s great-aunt and is still ridden by the Huddlestons, and had a particular love of the ‘flat tankers’ from the 1920s.This year’s route left The Doc’s Auld Hoose, travelled through the centre of the town and on to Airlie, via the Den of Alyth.

The Red House Hotel in Coupar Angus provided an excellent lunch for over 100 motorcyclists on their vintage and classic machines.Next year’s event will take place on Saturday, August 31.Trophy winners:Oldest Machine to complete run - Moss Lloyd Moss, 1916 Triumph;Best Performance by a Lady - Helen Wright, 1926 AJS 350;Furthest Distance Travelled to Participate - Lasse Arronæs from Norway;Fab Flat Tanker - Mark Aitken, 1924
