NHS waiting lists continued to grow in May, as the latest official figures show the problems the new government faces. A total of 7.60 million people were on the waiting list in England in May.
That’s up from 7.57 million in April, and 7.54 million in March. The number is down from a peak of 7.77 million in September though, but is still the sixth highest on record.
A total of 307,500 people have been on the waiting list for over a year, up from 302,589 in April. READ MORE: Greater Manchester street transformed for new Netflix drama House of Guinness However, it works out as just 4% of people on the waiting list.
That’s down from 5.2% at the same time last year, and down from a peak of 8.8% in March 2021. You can check out how the waiting list has changed at your local trust using our interactive chart.
