The historic first-ever broadcast of a St Patrick’s Day Late Late Show proved a ratings hit as 566,000 pairs of Irish eyes were smiling at the sentimental show.

Ryan Tubridy added a ‘salty-touch’ of nostalgic national pride as the second March 17 with no parade, pubs and paddywhackery came rolling around.

With the nation-at-large confined to homes, there was an outpouring of grá as a massive 566,000 people tuned in to watch the eclectic mix of music, musings and comedy from a wealth of Irish stars.

The show opened with great green expectations with a set-piece featuring the Late Late theme performed by Irish people with the Eiffel Tower, Pyramids of Egypt, Great Wall of China, Mines of Moria, etc in the background.
