This English-language remake of a well-regarded Danish thriller focuses entirely on a 911 call-centre operator, played in real time by an all-stops-out Jake Gyllenhaal, who becomes so embroiled in one family’s emergency he loses the plot.

Decent though Gustav Møller’s 2018 version was, the details left a fair bit of room for improvement. This one leaves even more.

There’s something ominous (in a bad way) about the opening shot of Los Angeles surrounded by apocalyptic forest fires at night, signifying Extreme Urban Inferno to all who enter.
