If you live in or around Manchester, you'll have heard of Heaton Park. For many families it's on their doorstep, while for others it's within easy reach, with bus routes and a tram stop for those without a car.
Yet it's surprising how many people aren't fully aware of just how much there is to do there and the new attractions that have been added over recent years.

Read more: Mum accused of lazy parenting over school holiday snack baskets The lake has always been a popular spot for visitors and if you fancy taking to the water there are more options than ever, with swan shaped pedalos, rowing boats and - if you're wanting minimal effort - a motorboat.
It was the latter we sampled for our trip on the lake. While it didn't go quite as fast as we expected, it was probably for the best with two nervous passengers on board, and it made for a more relaxing journey as we took in the scenery.
