Small businesses in Wigan have received some £27m from the town hall in a bid to keep them afloat throughout the coronavirus crisis.

Almost 2,500 businesses have benefited from a slice of the funding in the past fortnight, the council has said. But the town hall says that some small companies could be missing out if the council doesn’t have up-to-date details.

The money is earmarked for small businesses who pay little or no business rates as a result of business rates relief schemes, and comes from a central government pot that was made available on 1 April.
