Four major supermarkets have announced they are cutting the price of Christmas vegetables in the run-up to the big day. To help families manage the cost of their Christmas dinners this year Asda, Aldi, Lidl and Sainsbury's have all announced they are selling bags of veg for just 15p.

Asda became the latest retailer to say they would be selling discounted food on Friday. From Thursday, December 19 to 24, shoppers instore or online will be able to get 1kg carrots (currently 69p), 2kg potatoes (currently £1.35) 500g sprouts (currently 85p), 360g broccoli (currently 79p) and 500g parsnips (currently 75p) for just 15p each. They include British parsnips (500g), British carrots (1kg), British brussel sprouts (500g), echalion shallots (300g), British swede (each) and white potatoes (2kg).

Making the announcement, Lidl said: "Lidl prices are always market leading, even when others reduce theirs. But Lidl works on long-term agreements with producers and growers, ensuring that promotional prices do not affect the price paid to the farmer." The Christmas vegetables offer will be in stores nationwide from December 19 to 24, while stocks last.
