Tomorrow (July 20) marks the 50th anniversary of the Turkish intervention and partitioning of Cyprus in response to a coup d’état backed by the Greek military junta.
Nicosia remains Europe’s only divided capital, with the north largely inhabited by Turkish Cypriots and the south by Greek Cypriots.
