The Crown creator Peter Morgan is sharing how he managed the show’s ending following Queen Elizabeth II‘s death in 2022.

In a recent interview, Peter reflected on what the Queen‘s passing meant for the series’ sixth and final season, which takes place in in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Keep reading to find out more… “We’d all been through the experience of the funeral,” he told Variety. “So because of how deeply everybody will have felt that, I had to try and find a way in which the final episode dealt with the character’s death, even though she hadn’t died yet.” Originally, Peter considered making the Queen‘s death the end of the series before finally deciding to conclude the show in 2005. “It was the cutoff to keep it historical, not journalistic,” he said. “I think by stopping almost 20 years before the present day, it’s dignified.” The Crown season 6 will be split into two parts, the first of which is expected to focus on Princess Diana’s death.

Much of the cast from season 5 will return to their roles, including Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth, Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip, Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret, Dominic West as Prince Charles, and Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana.

The Crown season 6 Part One will premiere on Netflix on November 16, while Part Two will hit the platform on December 14. Check out the official trailer for Part One of The Crown season 6.
