The founder of the weekly "clap for carers" campaign has said she wants next Thursday's round of applause to be the last. Annemarie Plas, from London, said she has been "overwhelmed" by the support for the ritual, but feels it is better to stop while it is at its 'peak.' People across the region have stood by their front doors every week to clap and cheer for health care workers on the frontline during the coronavirus pandemic.

It is held every Thursday at 8pm. Annemaris said she wanted to stop the show of support next week, amid concerns it has become too political.
