As a teenager during the 1970s, Wayne Hemingway MBE would make the weekly pilgrimage from Blackburn to Greater Manchester to sneak into the type of clubs, like Wigan Casino, that are still thought of fondly today.
Back then, Wayne would spend hours sourcing hand-me-downs from second-hand stores and turning them into new outfits with the help of his mother’s sewing machine.
So it’s apt then that, in 2024, Wayne is the man behind one of the biggest car boot sales in the country - the Classic Car Boot Sale - which attracts more than 40,000 people three times a year at London’s King’s Cross.
Described as a car boot with a twist, it not only features vintage garms and rare finds, but also classic vehicles, food stalls, and, naturally, a double-decker rave bus with DJs performing live sets.
