In case you haven’t heard, bobs are big beauty news at the moment. We’ve seen no end of celebrities swap their long lengths for shorter styles recently, from Emma Stone and Vogue Williams to Louise Redknapp and Michelle Keegan.
And one style in particular is trending at the moment – the ‘butterfly bob’. With a rise in both Google and TikTok searches, this term refers to an especially bouncy, ‘Hollywood glam’ haircut that ends just above the shoulders, recently seen on the likes of Zendaya and Wednesday star Jenna Ortega.
It’s autumn’s version of the long, layered butterfly haircut that celebs like Jennifer Lopez were seen sporting earlier this year.

We’ve asked the experts everything you need to know before going for the chop… What is a butterfly bob? “The butterfly bob is a more relaxed and glamorous version of the traditional bob,” says celebrity hairstylist and colour specialist Limoz Logli, who runs his own eponymous salon in London’s exclusive Chelsea area. “The hair is specifically layered to create bounce and movement, and it also provides a minimalistic yet well-defined look. “The name ‘butterfly bob’ comes from the shorter layers at the front of the hair, which resemble butterfly wings,” he adds.
