A 15-year-old boy was killed trying to save his mum as her ex-partner launched a horrific attack at their family home.Jakub Szymanski ran downstairs after he heard his mum Katarzyna Bastek screaming “Kuba, please help me" during the horror incident on June 9 last year.The teenager saw attacker Suleman Altaf, 45, standing over Katarzyna - who was covered in blood - holding a large knife and wearing a surgical face mask.He ran towards Altaf in a bid to halt further attacks but he was punched to the face and fell to the floor, the Manchester Evening News reports.On Friday, Altaf was sentenced to at least 30 years in prison for the brutal murder and attempted murder at Bednal Avenue in Miles Platting.The court heard how Altaf desperately tried to evade justice following the attack as he tried to sail across the English Channel in a dinghy before being caught and brought back to Manchester.Mum-of-four Katarzyna met Altaf online in 2012 while she was still living in her native Poland and the pair developed a relationship when she moved to the UK a year later.They had a son together but split up in 2015 when the relationship became toxic.
Altaf had unsuccessfully tried to get access to him as family court proceedings were imminent.Katarzyna heard a noise behind her while she was on FaceTime to a friend on June 9.
