TalkSPORT presenter Laura Woods has laid into Arsenal over their decision to hand David Luiz a new one-year contract. The Gunners confirmed that the Brazilian defender, 33, had been handed a new one-year deal on Wednesday morning.

Luiz, signed from Chelsea for £8million, only penned a one-year contract with a year’s option when arriving last summer. With agents’ fees and his salary, the total package across the current campaign has been a whopping £24million.

As such, the club did not want to pick up his option, which would have seen him become a free agent next week, able to walk away on a free transfer.

He produced a dismal display at Manchester City last week, where his mistake allowed City to open the scoring, before he gave away a
