Lauren Mayberry has spoken to NME about her decision to go solo, the “freedom” to write from a purely female perspective away from Chvrches, and what to expect from her debut album.First announcing details of her “fun, freaky, sad, weird, joyful” solo material back in July before revealing launch single ‘Are You Awake?‘, Mayberry has been roadtesting her new songs on tour in the US, before kicking off the UK and European leg in her native Glasgow last night.Speaking about her current mood having got the project off the ground, Mayberry said described it as “the usual new music anxiety multiplied by, ‘What if nobody wants this or if everyone thinks you’re a fucking idiot for wanting to do it’ anxiety”.“There’s always nervousness,” she told NME. “For any frontperson in a band, but especially a woman, as soon as you say the words ‘solo material’ people get very upset with you.

Death Cab For Cutie and The Postal Service frontman Ben Gibbard has spoken to NME about the joint 20th anniversary celebrations for ‘Transatlanticism’ and ‘Give Up’ – which hit UK shores this week – as well as the future of both bands.Playing both seminal albums in full across back-to-back sets, Death Cab and The Postal Service will headline London’s All Points East Festival on Sunday (August 25), alongside dates in Cardiff, Glasgow and mainland Europe. After extensive celebrations across the US, these gigs will mark the conclusion of the highly-anticipated anniversary tour, and the second reunion of The Postal Service, who haven’t released any music since 2003’s ‘Give Up.’“Once we got going, it was like riding a bike”, exclaimed Gibbard, who told NME how old Postal Service keyboard sounds had to be rebuilt from scratch.

Death Cab For Cutie and The Postal Service have extended their previously announced 20th-anniversary tour – adding new shows in the UK and Europe to the bill.The extension comes in response to a huge demand from fans, following both bands embarking on their joint 2023 tour.Like with the previous performances, the new dates will see Ben Gibbard – the co-founder of both bands – continue to pull double duty at the live shows, performing ‘Give Up’ and ‘Transatlanticism’ in full alongside his respective bandmates.It comes as both albums have hit their 20-year milestone – with The Postal Service’s RIAA Platinum-certified ‘Give Up’ arriving in February 2003, and Death Cab for Cutie’s fourth studio LP ‘Transatlanticism’ being released just eight months later.Today (February 16), three new shows have been added to the 2024 schedule, including a new date at the OVO Arena in Glasgow on August 23, and a show at the Utilita Arena in Cardiff the following night (24).A post shared by Death Cab for Cutie (@deathcabforcutie)The two new shows come ahead of the bands’ co-headline slots in London on August 25, when they take to the stage at Victoria Park for this year’s instalment of All Points East.The final of the new dates includes a slot at Poble Espanyol in Barcelona on August 27. Each band will play the 2003 albums in full.After a string of shows in September and October, Gibbard announced today (November 30) a string of extra US tour dates, and revealed an extra London show.

Death Cab For Cutie and The Postal Service kicked off their joint 20th anniversary co-headline tour in Washington last night (September 5).Ben Gibbard joined both of his bands for the tour with Death Cab performing their 2003 album ‘Transatlanticism’ and The Postal Service’s ‘Give Up’ in full at The Anthem.During the latter’s set, they were joined by Death Cab for a cover of Depeche Mode‘s classic hit single ‘Enjoy The Silence’ at the end of the show.
