Trevor Nelson has spoken to NME about his career, the state of UK R&B, and shared some advice for young people on getting into the media industry.The DJ and radio pioneer was speaking to NME after hosting a panel talk at the Confetti Institute of Creative Technologies’ London campus.As part of Confetti’s 2024 Industry Week inviting leaders from the worlds of music and media, Nelson spoke to Crowd DNA content and media agency professional Andy Crysell, actor and movie producer Hester Ruoff, former head of content at Spotify Vino Vethavanam, and Dale Davis – the former musical director for Amy Winehouse.Having started out working in a record store before becoming a DJ and presenter on the then-pirate radio station KISS FM, the MBE recipient told the crowd that the biggest low point of his career came after the channel was legalised in 1990.“I had a daytime show and, two years into that show, I got fired,” Nelson told the panel and audience. “When my boss told me in he was in tears because he couldn’t believe I had just been fired, and I didn’t care.

People who become unwell with symptoms of diarrhoea and vomiting need to drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated and should stay off work, education and childcare settings until symptoms have stopped for two days, as this is when you’re most infectious.“We also advise that people wash their hands thoroughly when handling food and after using the toilet, to help prevent the spread of infection.”Dr Wood went on to say if symptoms do not settle after two days people should call their GP or NHS 111 for medical advice.Meanwhile, Bombay Bicycle Club recently teamed up with Holly Humberstone on their latest track ‘Diving’ from their forthcoming album.It is the second track from Bombay Bicycle Club’s upcoming sixth album ‘My Big Day’, which is out on October 20.

The Stone Roses’ frontman Ian Brown and techno heavyweights Leftfield, who recently turned heads with their slot at this year’s Glastonbury.Other acts set to perform at the event include dance acts Inner City and Soul II Soul, as well as A Certain Ratio, who are enjoying a recent resurgence.A vast number of The Hacienda’s returning DJs will also appear at the event, featuring David Morales, Roger Sanchez, Dimitri From Paris, Todd Terry and Kevin Saunderson. Additionally, in what the promoters describe as a “very rare appearance together”, Mike Pickering & Graeme Park will join forces for a special back-to-back set.More returning acts include Greg Wilson, DJ Paulette, Peter Hook, 808 State, K Klass, Justin Robertson, Jon Dasilva, Hewan Clarke, Tom Wainwright and Kath McDermott.

Sam Ryder has been announced as the final headliner at this year’s Wychwood Festival.He will perform on the final night of the event on Sunday, June 4 alongside Melanie C, Toploader and Soul II Soul.The Eurovision star joins previously announced headliners Happy Mondays and Travis. Sleeper have also been announced to headline the comedy tent on the Saturday night (June 3).The 2023 edition of Wychwood Festival will be taking place at Cheltenham Racecourse from June 2-4, 2023.

Soul II Soul legend Jazzie B was at the BandLab NME Awards 2022 to present the Godlike Genius award to FKA Twigs, whom he praised for innovation “off the Richter scale” and her “thespian-like” approach to her art.
