NME about the new BBC podcast The Rise And Fall Of Britpop – and the chances of a similar cultural phenomenon taking place again today.Launched this week, the new eight-part series sees 6 Music DJ and former NME journalist Lamacq – along with fellow BBC DJ and former Evening Sessions co-host Jo Whiley – delve deep into the rise of UK indie in the ’90s with new interviews, archive interviews and more, featuring prominent artists from the scene.To get a feel for the new series, NME spoke to Lamacq about life before Britpop, how it wouldn’t have been possible without the death of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, the characters it gave us, and what caused the scene’s demise…Lamacq: “The start of the ‘90s was a little grim, grey and downtrodden. The rise of dance music through the late ‘80s and into the ‘90s was a reaction to that – and an escape from that. In musical terms, we had the shoegaze movement in the early ‘90s, which brought some quite good stuff.

Find details below.The Britpop icons have shared the tour dates in celebration of their classic single ‘Inbetweener’ and breakthrough debut album ‘Smart’, which each turn 30 this year.In total, 12 new tour dates have been confirmed, kicked off on September 25 with an opening night at the Tramshed venue in Cardiff.

Eurovision Legacy gigs across the UK.The initiative was launched with a special free concert for 15,000 people in the Eurovision Village on Wednesday (May 10) and follows the successful delivery of the Liverpool leg of the National Lottery’s United By Music Tour, which sees artists such as Lightning Seeds, The Coral and Miles Kane playing local venues in support of the live music sector.Starting in mid-June, the United by Music Tour will see both established and up-and-coming artists performing in over 130 locations across the country. Sam Ryder has been announced as the final headliner at this year’s Wychwood Festival.He will perform on the final night of the event on Sunday, June 4 alongside Melanie C, Toploader and Soul II Soul.The Eurovision star joins previously announced headliners Happy Mondays and Travis. Sleeper have also been announced to headline the comedy tent on the Saturday night (June 3).The 2023 edition of Wychwood Festival will be taking place at Cheltenham Racecourse from June 2-4, 2023.

IDLES have been announced as one of the main headliners of Creation Day Festival 2022.The festival is being curated by Creation Records co-founder Alan McGee, and had been set to debut this year before coronavirus-enforced restrictions forced its cancellation.Creation Day Festival is now aiming to debut in Wolverhampton’s West Park from May 28-29, 2022.“I’m very pleased to be asked again by the City of Wolverhampton Council and Toura Toura Festivals to curate the Utilita Creation Day Festival 2022,” McGee said in a statement.
