Ozzy Osbourne’s guitarist Zakk Wylde teases that the frontman could be in a “throne that flies over the stadium” for final Black Sabbath gig
Ozzy Osbourne‘s longtime collaborator and guitarist Zakk Wylde has teased that the frontman could be in a “throne that flies over the stadium” for Black Sabbath‘s final gig.Earlier this year, the legendary metal band announce details of what will be their last-ever live show, taking place in Birmingham’s Villa Park on July 5.As well as containing the original line-up – Ozzy, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward – the band will also be joined by a star-studded list of opening acts and special guests, including Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Lamb Of God, Tool, Mastodon, Alice In Chains, Guns N’ Roses, Halestorm, Gojira and more.Speaking to Riff X’s Metal XS recently, Wylde said the magnitude of the gig is going to be “pretty mind-blowing”, and shared some insight as to how Ozzy could navigate the mammoth concert.“The game plan is, let’s hope this is what happen, you always gotta stay on the bright side of life, because Oz was singing at the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame thing,” he said (via Billboard).“Ozzy was just sitting at the chair and he was singing ‘Mama, I’m Coming Home’, and it sounded great. So hopefully we’ll just do this, and then Oz will go, ‘Let’s just fire up the machine again and we’ll do another tour.’A post shared by NME (@nmemagazine)“With Oz and his throne that just flies over the stadium or whatever, [where he] shoots out buckets of water and does everything like that.

Hozier and Pantera are dominating gardening playlists
Hozier and Pantera are among the artists proving popular with gardeners.According to a new study by First Saturday Lime Study which dug into the intersection of music and gardening, both the Irish singer-songwriter and US heavy metal band dominate Spotify gardening playlists as the most featured artists. The study analysed over 76,000 songs from Spotify playlists and surveyed 1,000 Americans before discovering some surprise revelations.Hozier’s ‘Too Sweet’ was the top song to feature on gardening playlists, followed by ‘Here Comes The Sun’ by The Beatles and ‘Good Luck, Babe!’ by Chappell Roan.Zach Bryan, Morgan Wallen and Luke Combs, meanwhile, were the top artists appearing on homesteading – meaning someone who lives self-sufficiently, usually by growing their own food – playlists on Spotify. But it was Noah Kahan‘s ‘Stick Season’ that came out as the top song on homesteading playlists.Among other findings was that 62 per cent of gardeners and homesteaders listen to music while doing so, while 56 said that listening to metal while gardening actually helps to reduces stress. However listening to heavy metal apparently does come with some potential risks, with one finding revealing that 20 per cent of people who listen to that genre of music while gardening accidentally kill their plants.Similarly, nearly one in four people who listen to EDM while gardening (23 per cent) reported a low yield of crops.Elsewhere, it was rap/hip-hop and pop that came out as the top genres on gardening playlists on Spotify, while country and pop came out on top for homesteading playlists. As for the song of the summer among gardeners and homesteaders, Kendrick Lamar‘s ‘Not Like Us’ secured that honour.Another recent study found that metal proved

Pantera kick off first headline tour in 22 years – here’s what they played
Pantera kicked off their long-awaited North American headlining tour last week with a show in Pennsylvania. Check out footage of the gig and the full setlist below. The ongoing live performances mark the heavy metal veteran’s first headlining tour on the continent since they made their comeback last year, with Zakk Wylde (Black Label Society, Ozzy Osbourne) on guitar and Charlie Benante (Anthrax) on drums. The two new members join frontman Phil Anselmo and bassist Rex Brown, and take the place of the two late Abbott brothers, Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul.Taking place at The Pavillion at Star Lake in Burgettstown, Pennsylvania on July 28, the four-piece marked their comeback with a 16-song setlist which included countless fan favourites, as well as two tracks that haven’t been played in over two decades. The gig kicked off with renditions of ‘A New Level’ and ‘Mouth For War’ – both songs from their hit 1992 album ‘Vulgar Display Of Power’, before later featuring a variety of their most famous hits, including ‘Walk’, ‘This Love’, ‘Fucking Hostile’ and ‘Cowboys From Hell’.A main highlight of the night, however, came right at the end of the set, as Anselmo and Co. played ‘Slaughtered’ and ‘Revolution Is My Name’ – two tracks that haven’t featured in their live setlist since 2001.Other key moments of the set came with their famed cover of Black Sabbath’s 1970 track ‘Planet Caravan’, and a crowd-led performance of ‘Happy Birthday’, which was played for Brown who had turned 59 the day before.

Billy Corgan on telling Pantera to “shut the fuck up” about Metallica
The Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan has revealed he once told Pantera to “shut the fuck up” after they started questioning Metallica’s ‘90s output.Metallica released the genre redefining ‘The Black Album’ in 1991 before following it up with the divisive ‘Load’ album in 1996 and ‘Reload’ in 1997 alongside 1998’ ‘Garage Inc’, which saw the heavy metal titans cover everyone from Black Sabbath to Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds.Speaking on Jose Mangin’s SiriusXM Metal Ambassador podcast (via Loudwire), Corgan explained that Pantera were “having a big moment” at the start of the ‘90s, as were The Smashing Pumpkins.Corgan went on to say he was backstage with Pantera who were discussing “one of Metallica’s mid-’90s [albums], it might have been ‘Reload’ or something,” and there was “a lot of controversy about where Metallica was trying to go and what happened to Metallica and are they still metal [if] they’re wearing makeup now”.“They were just going on and on about Metallica,” continued Corgan. “Not in a negative way, more confused like, ‘I love Metallica, but I don’t get it and they’re not metal and what’s going on?’.”“I knew them well enough that they would sort of listen to me and I said ‘You know what? Shut the fuck up’,” added Corgan, with the room apparently going silent.“’Listen, set aside Metallica for a second’,” continued Corgan.
