NME, Warhammer Age Of Sigmar: Realms Of Ruin game designer Daniel Saunders has discussed the effort that goes into turning a Warhammer story into a real-time strategy (RTS) campaign.Set in the savage realm of Ghur, Realms Of Ruin‘s campaign takes place as a band of Stormcast Eternals – some of humanity’s strongest warriors – fight to secure a foothold against Orruk tribes, undead Nighthaunt, and Chaos-touched Disciples Of Tzeentch.“Getting to a campaign to operate where you’re playing from multiple perspectives is quite tricky,” shared Saunders. He says more of that challenge lay with principle designer Sandy Sammarco and veteran Games Workshop author Gav Thorpe, who worked with Frontier Developments on the plot.“They had to weave together a story where each of these factions having something to do with each other, whatever that may be, had to make sense,” said Saunders.

Warhammer Age Of Sigmar: Realms Of Ruin has shown off its fourth and final faction ahead of its launch in November: the Disciples of Tzeentch.“Favouring intellect over brute strength, Tzeentch’s minions are gifted with arcane powers and eldritch mutations,” explained Frontier Developments in the announcement on Steam. Frontier Developments, the developer of series like Elite, F1 Manager and RollerCoaster Tycoon, has announced that there will be an unknown number of redundancies to reduce annual operating costs.The news broke through the London Stock Exchange on October 17, stating that a period of “disappointing financial performance” had led to the decision.As a result of the layoffs and a new constrained spending strategy, Frontier Developments aims to cut annual operating costs by up to 20 per cent.“The organisational review and resulting actions are expected to conclude by early 2024, placing Frontier in a strong position to deliver efficiently on its strategic plan over the medium term, and capitalise on future opportunities,” read the statement.Redundancies will be subject to consultation and for that reason it has not been disclosed how many developers and other employees of Frontier will be affected. This reorganisation is expected to wrap up in early 2024.It has been a tricky year for Frontier, with a year-on-year drop in revenue from £114million to £104.6million for the financial year ending in May 2023.Furthermore, Frontier shuttered its third-party publishing label Frontier Foundry in June, which led to “£28.7 million of non-cash intangible asset impairment and accelerated amortisation charges” impacting the total operating profit.According to VideoGameLayoffs.com, a website managed by developer Farhan Noor, more than 6,000 jobs in the games industry have been lost over the course of 2023.Epic Games cut over 800 roles in order to cut costs, and Embracer Group closed Volition only two months after celebrating its 30th anniversary.

Warhammer Age Of Sigmar: Realms Of Ruin has confirmed it will be launching this November, with a reveal trailer confirming its third playable faction.During Gamescom‘s Opening Night Live showcase, Frontier Developments confirmed that Realms Of Ruin will be launching on November 17 for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5.The release date was shared with a new trailer for the fantasy game, which also revealed that the Nighthaunt will be one of the four playable factions available at launch.The Nighthaunt are undead servants of Nagash, the god of death, and rely on swarming opponents with ethereal units. In a hands-on preview, NME got to play against the Nighthaunt in a single-player campaign level, where human Stormguard forces are beset by the forces of Nagash at a haunted temple.There, a number of the Nighthaunt’s units could be spotted, including units of Craventhrone Guard.

Elite Dangerous’ key developers have shared what to expect from the game’s update 14 in a recent interview. Speaking with PC Gamer, senior producer Samantha Marsh stated “As we move towards Update 14, and the Aftermath, we’ll be really escalating the Thargoid threat, to the extent commanders have not seen before.”Update 13 was quite monumental for Elite Dangerous, as it concluded the game’s Azimuth Saga storyline which ran for almost two years.Marsh continues to state “I think everyone can see that bad things are coming. But the Aftermath will continue to kick that into higher and higher gear, and we’re really excited to see exactly [how] everyone deals with it”, before teasing “And it’s definitely safe to say the galaxy won’t be the same.”In terms of how the story will be presented in the update, Marsh explained her enjoyment at seeing players piecing together the Elite Dangerous story threads on their own, “we love to see the players doing that part of it.

Jurassic World Evolution 2 is gaining its first paid downloadable content (DLC) expansion pack in the form of the Early Cretaceous Pack.Available from December 9, the DLC expansion pack costs £5.99 and adds four new Early Cretaceous era creatures. These include two new land dinosaurs – the Wuerhosaurus and Minmi.
