Avalanche Software is hiring more staff, seemingly confirming the rumoured sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is in development.Hogwarts Legacy is an open-world action role-playing game set in the wizarding world of Harry Potter. According to a series of new job listings, developer Avalanche Software is hiring a senior producer to work on a new “open world, action RPG”.“Join the team behind the blockbuster open world, action RPG Hogwarts Legacy as we create what’s next,” continued the post.Another advert for a producer says the ideal candidate will have “experience developing open world RPG games or action/magical combat games,” pointing to a potential sequel to Hogwarts Legacy.Released in 2023, Hogwarts Legacy went on to be one of the best-selling games of the year, breaking an unbeaten 14 year run in North America that previously saw either Call Of Duty or Rockstar Games titles top the US video game chart.Unsurprisingly, in early 2024 Warner Bros. interactive president David Haddad confirmed that a “series of other things” were also in the pipeline alongside the previously confirmed Quidditch game.

Harry Potter games following the success of Hogwarts Legacy.Speaking to Variety in a new interview, Haddad stated that not only was an already announced game based on the wizarding sport Quidditch in beta testing but that a “series of other things” are also in development which “will let the fans be part of this world and stories and characters in deeper and deeper ways.”Haddad spoke on the upcoming Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions, stating that they don’t have any “particular announcements on exactly how and when [the Quidditch game] is going to come to the market, but we are working to get it designed in a way just to delight fans.”He also spoke very briefly about the message that Warner Bros Discovery is giving to the gaming division, stating that they keep emphasising the “importance of franchises”.“There’s a unique and important games have in keeping our franchises relevant, resonant and exciting because there’s plenty of fans and plenty of people consuming content where games are their starting point, it’s their preferred form of content,” he explained.NME reviewed Hogwarts Legacy when it was released, stating that it was “fun and managed to get a lot of things right”, but that the game already felt “somewhat dated”.“It’s a stunning way to experience Hogwarts and the surrounding area and is probably the best representation for fans of the universe, regardless of the medium. Hogwarts Legacy has confirmed there are “no current plans” for future expansions.Released earlier this month for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, Hogwarts Legacy is an immersive, open-world, action role-playing game set in the 1800s. A Playstation 4 and Xbox One version will follow on April 4, while Nintendo Switch players have to wait until July 25.However, according to game director Alan Tew, developer Avalanche Software doesn’t have any plans to expand the Harry Potter world.“We’ve been really heads down bringing [Hogwarts Legacy] to life, so at the moment there are no current plans for DLC,” Tew told IGN.In a three-star review, NME wrote: “Hogwarts Legacy is fun and manages to get a lot of things right, but it already feels somewhat dated, no doubt a hangover from the six-year development cycle.
