Up to one billion people across the world will soon suffer from an incurable condition called osteoarthritis, scientists have warned.The condition, which is the most common form of arthritis, causes joints to become painful and stiff.
And osteoarthritis is on the rise, with obesity one of the major contributors, responsible for around 20 per cent of cases in 2020.
Scientists now predict that as many as one billion people will suffer with the painful condition from 2050. Risk of developing the condition increases with age, with international research stating that the form of arthritis ranked seventh amongst causes of disability amongst those aged 70 and over.
Published in The Lancet Rheumatology, the research analysed data collected between 1990 and 2020 from more than 200 countries, reports the Mirror.
