The John Lewis Christmas advert for 2023 has a heartwarming meaning behind its song with Italian lyrics. This year John Lewis has introduced us to a Venus flytrap named Snapper and is all about celebrating how Christmas traditions have changed and differ from home to home.To accompany the advert is the festive tune sung by opera legend Andrea Bocelli, which features the Italian phrase "La Vita e una festa", which means "Life is a celebration".
A portion of the proceeds from the charity single will go towards helping care experienced young people and families in need. The advert shows the changing ways we celebrate Christmas and how unexpected plans can still lead to a special time together.
It tells the story of a young boy who wants to buy a grow-your-own Christmas tree kit, but ends up with Snapper, the Venus flytrap, bringing an unexpected twist to his Christmas. The plant, which the boy has grown since just being a seed, soon causes some chaos due to wanting to join in on the fun of Christmas.
But, there comes a tear-jerking moment when Snapper grows too big for the living room and is cast out into the cold. However, this doesn't last long as he is welcomed back into family life with them embracing that they have a non-traditional Christmas tree.
