A Conservative politician has been suspended from the party after allegedly baking hot cross buns which featured a swastika.

Lee Mason, a councillor in Portsmouth, Hampshire, was suspended after a photo emerged of the offensive Easter treats. The former lord mayor is a councillor on the city council, representing Cosham ward.

Also featured on the buns was the word "sex" as well as one with the word "f***". But the politician has denied creating a baked good featuring the swastika, a Hindu symbol now most commonly associated with Adolf Hitler's Nazi Party.

He told the Portsmouth News he had admitted making the buns adorned with the words and another with a Scottish National Party logo.
