Swans have had be be moved from a Glasgow park following "appalling attacks" that left one cygnet dead.Glasgow City Council's countryside rangers have come to the rescue of the birds, after they had become a target from yobs who lobbed stones at them.

Two adult swans and a cygnet were moved from the city's Springburn Park after one cygnet was found dead and three others went missing and are feared dead.

The remaining cygnet is also under-weight. Concerns for the safety of the birds were fuelled by reports of children - both boys and girls - throwing stones at them on a number of occasions in recent weeks, Glasgow Live reports.A council spokeswoman said: “Our countryside rangers have been forced to move three swans to safety from the pond in Springburn Park following appalling attacks by children throwing stones.“Two adult birds and a cygnet were moved today after one young bird was found dead and another three others went missing feared dead. “We would not normally disturb wild birds by moving them, but felt we had no choice on this occasion.Get the latest news sent straight to your messages by joining our WhatsApp community today. You'll receive daily updates on breaking news as well as the top headlines across Scotland. No one will be able to see who is signed up and no one can send messages except the Daily Record team. All you have to do is click here if you're on mobile, select 'Join Community' and you're in!If you're on a desktop, simply scan the QR code above with your phone and click 'Join Community'.We also treat our community members to special offers, promotions, and adverts from us and our partners.
