Popular reality TV series Survivor is set to make a return, 20 years after being axed. The programme followed a group of ordinary people becoming castaways as they were stranded on a remote desert island, where they had to fight for survival to win £1million.

Along the way, they had to find food, water, fire and shelter, and compete in challenges for rewards, and avoid being eliminated by their fellow islanders.

The last castaway standing is crowned Ultimate Survivor, with Charlotte Hoborough winning in 2001 when newsreader Mark Austen hosted, which was set in Pulau Tiga, and Jonny Gibb crowned in 2002 when England cricketer Mark Nicholas took over as host, set in Panama.

Now, the series could be returning for a revival but not on its former home ITV, as a source told The Sun: ‘The BBC has been working hard on getting Survivor back on the box and the deal is almost done. ’The insider added: ‘It made for great telly back in the early noughties and they think it would do incredibly well now too. ’If the revival is set to go ahead, casting for the series could begin in the coming months, the source added. ‘The BBC could not be more excited about the prospect of bringing Survivor back and given the budget and resources they could invest in it – it could be absolutely amazing. ’The original Survivor series’ paved the way for the likes of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!
