A new law coming into place on Thursday 27 January will see shoppers no longer required to wear a mask while browsing inside stores, including supermarkets.
It is now down to personal choice should you wish to wear a mask or not, as was the case prior to November 2021 when new measures were put in place.
Government guidance continues to recommend the use of face coverings, especially in enclosed or crowded spaces. Businesses can now set their own mask policies, with many still opting to display signs asking customers to wear a mask.
Supermarkets will now be deciding their own policies on face coverings in-store, with retailers such as Sainsbury's, Morrisons, and Waitrose all still encouraging shoppers to wear a mask.
