Pop-punk band Sum 41 have announced they're splitting up after 27 years as a band. The group, fronted by Deryck Whibley, announced on social media today the group will be going their separate ways after an upcoming album release and farewell tour.

The band first formed in 1996, but has become synonymous with the pop-punk movement of the late 90s and early 00s. Their smash-hits broke through to mainstream charts, with their 2001 debut All Killer No Filler selling 9million albums worldwide and including iconic hits Fat Lip and In Too Deep.

However, after nearly three decades, they've decided to hang up their jean shorts and baggy t-shirts for good. Their statement read: "Being in Sum 41 since 1996 brought us some of the best moments of our lives.

We are forever grateful to our fans both old and new, who have supported us in every way. "It is hard to articulate the love and respect we have for all of you and we wanted you to hear this from us first. ""Sum 41 will be disbanding," they wrote. "We will still be finishing all of our current upcoming tour dates this year, and we're looking forward to releasing our final album Heaven :x: Hell, along with a final worldwide headlining tour to celebrate. "Details will be announced as soon as we have them. ""For now, we look forward to seeing all of you skumfuks on the road and are excited for what the future will bring for each of us," they concluded. "Thank you for the last 27 years of Sum 41. "With the announcement in mind, the band will be touring across the world, upholding their scheduled month-long tour with The Offspring and Simple Plan, and a European tour in June.
