Strictly Come Dancing's Chris McCausland might be making history tonight as the first blind contestant to potentially win the Glitterball with partner Dianne Buswell, but his parents will sadly miss out on the live final due to illness. The 47 year old comedian has been wowing judges and audiences alike with his incredible dance skills, yet despite being a favourite to take home the trophy, he's been given some devastating news.

His mum Valerie, 69, is down with the flu and unable to make it to Elstree Studios in Borehamwood for the big night, while his dad John, 71, stays back in Liverpool to care for her.

However, they're brimming with pride over their son's achievements on Strictly. In a chat with the Daily Mail, his father said, "We're very proud of him - he's done very well.

Unfortunately the wife's in bed with flu so we're not able to go down and see him." When quizzed about Chris' chances of winning, he said, "You never know! " Meanwhile, Chris' dance pro Dianne was visibly moved on the It Takes Two spin-off show, shedding tears after watching a montage of their dancing journey.
