New laws have been put in place for anyone shopping at ASDA, Aldi, Tesco, Lidl, M&S, Morrisons, Sainsbury's and Iceland.

The same rules will also be in place for people shopping in stores like Primark, Home Bargains, B&M and TK Maxx. Any shopper caught flouting the rules will face tougher punishment.

The worst offenders could even see themselves put in jail. The Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act has introduced tougher penalties against customers who attack shop workers following a rise in abuse during the pandemic.

The legislation was given royal assent on 28 April. Under it, abuse against individuals who serve the public has become an aggravated offence. READ MORE: Everyone urged to check if they have 'special' 50p coins that are worth £150 each Levels of abuse reached new highs during the pandemic.
