A stranger has told how she rescued a teenage girl threatening to jump from a bridge and wouldn't have been able to live with herself if she didn't help.

Hope Heaney, 26, said she held onto the girl until professional help arrived. The mum had been driving along the M56 near Wythenshawe, Manchester, with her two young children at around 6pm on Wednesday night.

As she approached the bridge, her son noticed a young woman on the wrong side, and shouted for his mum to 'watch out.' Instead of driving on, Hope took the next exit on the motorway, and drove back to the bridge where the young girl had been threatening to jump, the Manchester Evening News reports.
