This is the incredible moment a hero police officer saves a man's life in a canal rescue. Pc James Briggs dived into the Ashton Canal in Tameside then swam out to reach him.
Footage of the rescue recorded on the body-worn camera of another officer who was at the scene has been released by Greater Manchester Police.
It shows Pc Briggs swimming out through the freezing water before dragging the man to safety. Police chiefs hailed the officer's 'brave and selfless' actions and called the rescue 'a great act of heroism'.
The man was taken to hospital for treament. Police said he's receiving the support he needs. He hasn't been named and isn't identified in the footage.
