UK music sales hit a high note last year – raking in almost £1.1 billion. A surge in the number of Brits using streaming services from Amazon and Apple caused revenues to rise by 7%, the most since 2006.
And vinyl records continued their comeback, with demand up by 16%. Geoff Taylor, chief executive of trade body the BPI and the BRIT Awards, said: “Watching British artists such as Stormzy and Harry Styles at The BRITs was a reminder of the contribution music makes to our life. “British music faces intense competition, and is undermined by widespread illegal sites.” The amount Brits spend on music has grown for the fourth year running, the BPI announced in a report that is published today.
