Stormy weather to batter Scotland this weekend as Met Office issues rain warning

Autumn appears to have arrived early this year as stormy weather will batter Scotland this weekend as summer bids farewell.The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for heavy rain on Saturday with the risk of thunder, lightning and stormy conditions.Up to four inches of rain could fall with in a 24 hour period, bring risk of flooding and travel disruption.

The yellow weather alert will be in place from midnight on Saturday until 23:59pm.Southwest Scotland will be worst hit by the rain deluge which will travel across the Atlantic from Northern Ireland throughout Saturday.

This will be swiftly followed by another round of heavy rain on Sunday. Forecasters at the Met Office believe this will mark the beginning of a longer phase of stormy weather, with a long range forecast from Monday 5 September to Wednesday 14 September reading: "The start of this period is expected to bring areas of thick cloud and heavy, thundery rain or showers to many places. "Any periods of rain could be longer than recently experienced.

Some brighter spells are also possible. Strong winds are also likely in places, perhaps with a risk of gales."Temperatures are expected to be around average but variable, especially under longer spells of rain where it may be cooler, or in any sunshine which will feel warmer.
