One of Greater Manchester's most historic pubs is set to open its doors again after lying vacant for more than a decade. The pub is situated in the old town quarter of Stockport on the Underbanks.
The White Lion is Stockport's oldest pub, dating back to the 15th Century. The building has acquired by Stockport Council as part of its £7m investment in the regeneration of the town's Market Place and Underbanks.
While the upper floors of the building were transformed into apartments in 2020, breathing life into the Grade II-listed building, the ground level has, until now, remained empty. Jon Dootson of the Classic Building Group and Stockport Leisure Limited, and Paul Astill, a designer who has worked on some of Manchester’s best known bars and restaurants are behind the venture.
