Stirling cycling club hope 2023 UCI World Championships time trial will inspire next generation of riders

One local cycling club have welcomed the news that the city is to host a world cycling championship event next year.It was announced earlier this week that Stirling has been selected to stage the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships time trial which will feature some of the world’s best riders.

The sporting occasion is just one in a series of events in the biggest competition event ever held.The UCI, world cycling’s governing body, selected the city to host the time trial world championships – an event that sees riders set off individually and test their mettle in a race to clock the fastest time over the course.The event is set for August 2023.Welcoming the news, Jim Prentice, chairman of Stirling Bike Club, said the event could act as an inspiration to aspiring young riders in the region.The club boasts more than 400 members across a number of cycling disciplines, including road racing, time trials; mountain biking and track racing.Mr Prentice told the Observer: “We’re delighted that Stirling has been chosen to host the time trial discipline of the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championship.

Stirling and its surrounding area is such a perfect location for the event. It combines sport along with history and tourism and will provide a huge boost for the area generally and for cycling in particular.“It will be inspirational for our 400 plus members to see world-class athletes in action and especially so for our youth section, the Wallace Warriors.“This fantastic event will generate huge excitement in the area and hopefully will spin off into additional involvement in cycling and all of the physical and mental health benefits that biking brings.”Click here for more news and sport from the Stirling area.Stirling and its
