Legendary musician Sting has claimed that he was ‘tricked’ into buying a Tuscan wine estate in 1997 after trying a glass of red from an Italian Duke.
The Police frontman told Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera’s Sette how he and his wife Trudie Styler had been searching for a home to purchase in Italy when they came across a ‘nice’ property which was rather ‘rundown’.
After several trips to a €3.5m estate, Sting was almost convinced he had to purchase it and got to the negotiation phase ‘even though it was in ruins.’ The Independent reports that the hitmaker’s mind about splashing the cash was finally made up once trying what he was told was a glass of wine from the vineyard.
